Podcast Reflection

Sal Khan, an inspirational being, created a online school for students or learners to work at their own pace. What was his life like? Through the interview on the podcast of Art of Power, I learned so much about Sal Khan. What amazed me was how he grew up. A single mother who had a wonderful family to help each other out. It seemed similar to my life. Although Sal's father left him, my father was taken by God. My father's family is a strong Christian family and eventually had my mother convert from a Catholic to a Christian. It is unfortunate for people like Sal and I to have lost a relationship with our fathers but we grew up with father figures in our lives.

My mother had a younger sister and brother who took care of me all my life. My uncle lived with us over 15 years of my life and is a blessing to grow up with him knowing to have a little fun. Whenever I traveled to South Korea, my aunt took care of me. She would take me to amusement parks, museums, galleries, and etc. She taught me how to cook and took me to places I have never been to. Although my mother was not able to attend to my needs all the time, I had other relatives taking care of me. I am amazed how my mother has raised my brother and I through the years, teaching us the values of family and education. She provided us with private education and got the best tutors for us to learn better. My mother is a role mother, now that I think about the things that she has done, as Sal Khan was a role model to his cousin.

I am grateful for the experiences and opportunities that came to my life. As Sal Khan decided to help millions of kids with a better education, I too want to help kids be better educated through different techniques. I know that I will be learning so much from my professors, colleagues, friends, and also my future students. I will keep learning from others to teach the future generation and also learn about from the future generation from their skills and knowledge. Through great people like Sal Khan I am able to learn and help myself get better.

Although my life is a little different than Sal Khan, we have the same goal to help educate kids and people through the changes of the future. I too want to become an inspirational teacher to students and to other people in education.
