Family Tradition in Beliefs
2 weeks ago was a very special day for my family. As little as I remember, my mother was not much of a believer. My father's family were somewhat believers and they went to church on Sundays. But after losing my father, we loved to South Korea for a bit because my mother was not well. Although she had a hard time doing things that she used to do with my father, a very special lady brought my mom things and shared her stories with my mother. She cared for my mother who lost her husband. It was years after that my mother soon got well and she decided to come back to Guam for me and my brother's education. Although she did not speak English well she got help from family members, friends, and neighbors. That is what i remember.
However, the story was quite different for my mother. I started asking questions about how she now became an important role model as a Deaconess at our church. The lady who helped my mother and convinced her to go to church was a Deaconess herself. She knew my father since he was little and cared for him. Now that he was gone, leaving his wife and kids, she wanted to care for us. My mother was struggling to find a job on Guam because of the language barrier, she had no friends to lean on, and was depressed. But the Deaconess from my church convinced her to come to worship on Sundays with her. From there the church members were welcoming my mother in as they knew about our situation.
It took 3 years for my mother to finally settle in and get a job. I was in 3rd grade, when we went to Sunday worship sometimes when she was free from work. But something changed her mind. 2 years passed and she got a new friend. Then she started to go to Sunday worships and also to teach Sunday School kids. She had a lot on her plate. She worked hard, volunteered at church, and kept me and my brother busy with extracurricular activities. She learned how to give her kids better education and opportunities by talking to her new friend. My mother had great friends who helped her get a life and start a new with opportunities and experiences. She was able to help out and learn from those experiences until now. She is a great role model and someday I want to be life my mother who raised beautiful kids by herself.
